The Wedding Guest Guide, What Do The Invitations Actually Mean?

<strong>The Wedding Guest Guide, What Do The Invitations Actually Mean?</strong>

Choosing what to wear to a wedding is a challenge most people face. A guest’s attire is completely dependent on the type of wedding you’re attending. Sometimes the invitations would give you some sort of hint to what the event style is, otherwise you’re going in completely blind. A maxi dress or a formal midi is always a safe bet, paired with heels and an adorable clutch, your outfit would be complete. An addition of a shrug instantly up dresses every look and therefore is too a fashion MUST! If you want to dress to theme, we have made it easier to understand by outlining what the wedding guest dress codes actually mean.

The invite says: "White Tie"
This is the most formal of all wedding dress codes (think red carpet).

Dress code:
A formal, full-length ball gown, shrug resting on shoulders. Glamorous makeup and dramatic jewelry and hair are appropriate.

The invite says: "Black Tie"
This is the next most formal wedding dress code and usually means the wedding is an evening affair.

Dress code:
A formal knee length dress or a long evening gown. The bride, wedding party, or friends can help answer questions about the appropriate dress length, usually dependent on the relationship with the newlyweds.

The invite says: "Formal”
The wording here suggests something slightly less formal than black tie. This means that a gown isn't required but the event is still formal enough for one to be appropriate.

Dress code:
A long dress, a dressy suit, or a formal knee-length dress.

The invite says: "Beach Formal"
This suggests an elegant beach wedding -- so dress to impress, but also dress for the elements (sun, sand, and water). Anything you'd wear to a nice dinner at a restaurant on a summer day is appropriate.

Dress code:
A formal summer sundress at maxi or knee-length with flat sandals. Makeup and hair can be natural and everyday.

The invite says: "Semiformal"/ "Dressy Casual"
Depending on the time of the event, you'll want to dress somewhere between formal and casual. Wear darker, more formal hues for an evening fete; opt for light colors and fabrics for a daytime wedding.

Dress code:
A knee- length dress or a dressy skirt and top.
