"A Christian first and a model second"- Coco Rocha

<strong>"A Christian first and a model second"- Coco Rocha</strong>

Canadian born model, Coco Rocha is an inspiration to us all. As a devout of Jehovah's witness, she will not pose nude, in lingerie, sheer clothing, with cigarettes, nationalistic emblems, or religious icons. Yet she is a model, and a highly successful one at that.

At the outset of her career she struggled to stay firm in her beliefs. She chose to be baptised in 2009 and knew when doing so that she would have to be firmer with her religion and beliefs, and let others clearly know where she would draw the line. All the while, knowing that she would lose modelling jobs as a result.

Rocha revealed; “In the beginning, the clients would say, ‘This is too much,’ but over time, the ones I liked kept working with me. They’d say, ‘It’s not too much. Coco can still be Coco. She still gives 100 percent when she’s on a photo shoot.’ It’s just my boobs aren’t out. And I don’t have a cigarette in my hand, and I’m not making out with a guy. And it’s all fine if you want to do that. I don’t judge. My besties do Victoria’s Secret. I just don’t do it.”

Rocha has a big following of girls who look up to her and respect her more modest approach to modelling. Her following also helps her stay on track religiously as well. If they see an immodest photograph of her what will they think? 'She gave in to temptation. How could we possibly stay modest when she couldn't?'

Nigel Barker who worked with Coco Rocha on 'The Face'- a reality TV modelling competition series, calls Rocha’s moral stance “a very powerful statement for fashion” and says that as a mentor on the show, she was able to show the aspiring models “you don’t need to take off everything in order to be exciting or mysterious."
